Wet Sounds Boat AudioWet Sounds has made a name for themselves in the wakeboard tower speaker market with their unique, high-output horn-loaded tower speaker designs. Now, following up on the recent release of their new Pro 60 Wakeboard Tower Speakers, they’re turning their attention to inside the boat to give your entire audio system a makeover.

Their new line of XS components features a 6.5″ coaxial full-range model, as well as two subwoofer options, a 10″ and a 12″. Manufactured with the same innovative ideas and materials as their tower speakers, the XS series aims to appease the many consumers and dealers that wanted a high output speaker that could live up to the abuse the marine environment is capable of. This new line of speakers effectively allows wakeboarders to outfit their their boats with high quality audio for passengers inside, in addition to the best tower speakers for the rider at the end of the line.

Houston, TX – Wet Sounds is proud to announce the release of a new category of speakers for the company; the XS Series of in-boat speakers. Wet Sounds is well-known for their award winning wakeboard tower speakers that utilize proprietary designs and new technologies. Wet Sounds had numerous requests from dealers and consumers to produce a line of high performance in-boat speakers with the same cutting edge designs and high output sound. Not wanting to produce just another regular line of in-boat speakers, Wet Sounds pushed the envelope again in the use of unique materials that provide an advanced speaker system in terms of both sound performance and durability in the marine environment.

The first model in the line is the XS-650 6.5 inch component style coaxial. One of the advanced materials used is Nylas™ for the frame and grille. Nylas™ is a stronger material than what most conventional in-boat speakers use and offers superior resistance to weather and UV.

While most in-boat speakers use a treated cloth spider. Wet Sounds uses a special rubber blend for the spider. This provides more durability against moisture and will outlast cloth in a marine environment. The cone material is a UV stabilized injection molded composite with a rubber surround. The tweeter is a special horn ring titanium tweeter that is grill mounted and provides increased off axis dispersion. Grill mounting also allows the mid range to be a completely sealed driver with no worries of water intrusion down a pole piece. The XS 650 handles 100 watts RMS/200 watts peak.

XS-650 MSRP: $199 pair

The other two models in the XS line are two subwoofers; the XS-10FA and the XS-12. The XS-10FA is a 10 inch infinite baffle subwoofer. This subwoofer is designed specifically for boat applications. It can be used as a direct replacement for existing free air type subwoofers or for boat owners looking to add some low end to their boat without the need for an enclosure.

The XS-12 is a high-powered 12-inch marine subwoofer. This subwoofer is optimized for small sealed or ported enclosures. Many boat owners are installing elaborate car audio subwoofer systems in their boats to achieve a higher output but many of these subwoofers are not designed to withstand the harsh marine environment. The XS-12 is one of the first high performance 12 inch marine subwoofers on the market.

Both subwoofers are built with powder coated cast aluminum frames that have integrated magnet structures. They use high temperature voice coils and an extended pole piece to provide high spl and low distortion. Like the XS-650, the XS series of subwoofers utilize Wet Sounds special rubber blend for the spider. An injection molded composite cone with over molded rubber surround provides a light yet rigid cone that is UV stabilized and resistant to moisture. Coated tinsel leads and gold plated binding posts finish off the subwoofer. Both are dual 4 ohm voice coil models.

XS-10FA MSRP: $159 each
XS-12 MSRP: $229 each

The XS Series is available now.

I purchased 4 XS-650 speakers for my Mastercraft and within the time of tow months, three of the speaker grills had already cracked. Sound great, but not at all durable.
