Malibu Athletes Steal The Show At The 2008 Malibu Open

Posted on July 22nd, 2008 by Jason | posted in Events, General, Riders

Malibu sponsored athletes put on an impressive showing at the 2008 Malibu Open in Pontiac, MI last week. In a total of five events, Malibu skiers and wakeboarders amassed four first place finishes, leaving little room for anyone else to share the glory.

Malibu team riders Philip Soven and Dallas Friday proved too much to handle on the wakeboard side of things. While Soven’s win was impressive, given the season he’s had, it didn’t come as much of a surprise. Right now there’s no one else in the world that can compete with him when it comes to the shear number of tricks he throws, and the technical nature of his riding.

Friday’s win is even more spectacular, given that she is still on the comeback from what could have been a career ending injury. The fact that she has been able to return to the caliber of riding we’ve known her for so quickly makes it clear that she’s still the best female wakeboarder in the world.

It was another successful year for the Malibu Open, and with this year’s event wrapped up, all attention is turned to next year’s contest. We’ll let you know as soon as Malibu announces the location.

Professional Wakeboard Dallas Friday's Crib

Dallas Friday has found success that few wakeboarders will experience. ESPN Espy award? Check. X-games Gold? Check. World Champion? Check. Masters Champion? Check. Pro Tour, Malibu Open, U.S. Open, Nationals, Vans Triple Crown? Check. So it should come as no surprise that Dallas has translated that success into some pretty nice digs. Thanks to a video that mimics MTV’s Cribs, we can an inside look into what it’s like to live in Dallas Friday’s world.

Check out the video after the break to see what an Espy award can do for you.

Trailer for Push Process, Oakley’s Incredible New Video

Oakley SunglassesLike pretty much every one in the wakeboard industry, we thought Justin Stephen’s film from last year, The Truth, was amazing. From the first time we saw the final cut we were asking ourselves “how can he possibly top this?” Enter Push Process, the new Oakley team video directed by, yep you guess it, Justin Stephens. This time Chase Heavener (that’s a name from the past) also works his magic with incredible effects.

Although all we’ve seen so far is the trailer, it looks like Justin has worked his magic yet again, and the result is a movie that appears as though it will surpass even The Truth in terms of cinematography excellence and mind blowing angles and slow motion action. It’s also incredible to see to how much the sport has progressed in just the last year when compared to the riding in The Truth.

We’ll stop talking now so you can check out the trailer after the jump, enjoy!

Friday Starts Riding Again at OWC

It was only four months ago that word leaked out of Asia that Dallas Friday had not only suffered a horrendous accident, but was also struggling to overcome complications that evolved during the operation to insert a rod in her femur.

Now comes word that Dallas is back on the water again, riding at OWC for the first time since her accident. By all accounts Dallas enjoyed her time on the water, and her recovery is obviously going well if she’s been cleared to test her strength on the water.
