Soven Continues PWT Domination North of the Border

Can anyone beat Phil Soven this year? He’s currently 3 for 4 on the Pro Wakeboard Tour, and after sharing that he hasn’t missed a switch crow mobe 540 in over two years, we have to wonder if anyone has a chance to beat him as the race to the end of the season draws near.

Despite strong competition and rough water, Soven was able to lay down a solid run, and dealt with the rollers better than most others, including local favorites Chad Sharpe and Rusty Malinoski. Kelowna knows how to put on an event, with a sell out crowd that has us wondering what’s missing from Pro Tour events in the US. Fans lined the shores and packed the beer garden to check out some of the best, and most competitive riding in the world.

Although Phil has proven himself on tour this year, a quick look at the standings shows him leading Rusty in 2nd place by only 10 points, which means the season finale in Portland is going to be the perfect finish to a year of great riding on tour. We’ll see you in Portland for the conclusion, along with a party that only the Pacific Northwest can put on.

Wakeboarding gets another shot at primetime on Fuel TV’s Insane Cinema program throughout the month of April. Sure, it’s not a major network, but anytime you can catch someone riding a wakeboard and it’s not part of some cheesy commercial, that’s a good thing for the sport.

So program your DVR if you haven’t already seen this unique film from Sean Kilgus and if you have seen it, make sure you remind all of your buddies that haven’t to check out Fuel TV this month.

Check out all of the details, along with a preview of the video after the jump.

We’re not really sure either, but you can be certain it will make an entertaining wakeboarding movie with some impressive riding thrown in for good measure. That’s the idea behind the Living the Dream Tour, and it’s kicking off soon, so stay tuned for more information.

Rusty Malinoski Hyperlite Wakeboards Pro ModelWith the recent addition of Rusty Malinoski to Hyperlite’s team of pro wakeboarders, the obvious question is, when can we expect a new pro model. Rusty has made inroads for heavier riders by proving that extra strength can make you a better rider in both smooth and rough water alike. Not since Darin Shapiro have we seen such a powerful rider dominate the industry to the degree that Rusty has over the last 18 months. From numerous contest titles to two 1080′s (switch frontside no-less), Rusty is proving to be a well rounded rider that can compete in any conditions. He’s no longer a one dimensional rider that can only win in rough conditions.

It doesn’t get much better, but thanks to a new deal with industry giant Hyperlite, Rusty now has a board sponsor he can rely on. [...]

Revisiting the 1080

It’s a new year, but still one can’t help but look back on the end of 2006 with amazement. Four 1080′s in less than three months, is this a sign of things to come? Who knows, but one thing is for sure, the three riders that managed to pull off three spins last year deserve [...]
