The Toe Jam Wakeskate series is back for its sophomore year, and after an impressive freshman showing, the 2008 version will have some big shoes to fill.

Fortunately Rock Star and O'Neill are on board again as sponsors, and they've even added a four stop in Canada. This year's Toe Jam tour will consist of three qualifiers, each offering a $10,000 purse, and each giving contestants a chance to earn a spot in the main event, the Byerly Toe Jam Orlando, FL. A total of 16 riders will compete for the crown in the September final, with the 6 main event champs from last year earning and automatic invitation. The remaining 10 spots will be filled by the 6 division qualifiers from this year's tour, along with 4 wild card entries.

The first event is coming up, April 17-19 at The Projects, so stay tuned for full coverage. WAKEOrigin will be bringing you all of the action this year, so even if you can't witness the best wakeskaters in the world in person, at least you can get your fix online.

The second installment of this years tour will take place at Texas Ski Ranch located in New Braunfels, TX. The setup at TSR includes a cable park that will host the slider course, as well as a private lake where competitors will ride behind a Mastercraft X-Star to battle it out on the wakes.

Qualifying took place yesterday, and despite strong winds, the level of riding was still impressive with Nick Taylor pulling a backside 3 off the kicker, and George Daniels hitting a boardslide kickflip off the incline rail. Today is the bonus wake session behind the X-Star, and should prove just as impressive. Saturday is the main even though, with much at stake. The top three riders from the finals will advance to the Toe Jam main event in September at The Projects. The finals kick off at 9am, and will run until a winner is found. If you're in the area, head over to Texas Ski Ranch to witness the best wakeskaters in the world battling it out. If you can't make it out this weekend, don't worry, WAKEOrigin will bring you the results of each round of competition.

The full list of qualifying riders is posted after the jump.

What better way to launch a new publication dedicated to the heart of wakeboarding than with a full featured story on one of the most important riders in the history of our sport, Scott Byerly? Josh Letchworth and Joey Meddock couldn't think of anything, and that's why issue 1.1 of The Standerd features an eight page spread on the god father of wakeboarding.

The Standerd is a new publication dedicated to showing the artistic side of wakeboarding, without the bureaucracy that has enveloped the traditional publications. If you're a wakeboarder, you owe it to yourself to get a subscription. The image quality alone with worth it, and the quality is so high Meddock and Letchworth have taken to calling it "a book". This is definitely something you would could sport on the coffee table without being embarassed, even if your guests aren't wakeboarders.

Check out the Scott Byerly profile story in the current issue of The Standerd.

The day after its founder's and namesake's birthday Reed Hansen took the honors at the inagural event of Byerly's 4th Toe Jam wakeskate tour. As the premiere wakeskating event, the Toe Jam series attracks the best wakeskaters in the world, partly for the quality of competition, and party for the relaxed and entertaining atmosphere.

Reed combined solid riding behind the Wakeboard Edition Sea-Doo and made easy work of the 10 rail obstacles on the course to best impressive riding from the likes of Brandon Thomas, Brian Grubb and suprise performer Nick Taylor. The overall level of riding in this years first stop of the Toe Jam Series proves just how quickly the level of riding is improving.

The full details of today's final round, along with the dates of the remaining tour stops are after the jump.

The 16 riders that advanced from yesterday's preliminary qualifying round tore it up behind a 220 Nautique, throwing down multiple flip tricks and spins out into the flats. The surprise upset of the day was Nick Taylor knocking out Aaron Reed in round 5 of the qualifying. Even with a couple of big names failing to advance to tomorrow's final, the stage is set for some great wakeskating.

Tomorrow will see the conclusion of the first stop of the Toe Jam tour, so stay tuned to see which skater will take top honors. The full summary of today’s action, along with the results are posted after the jump.

Created by Scott Byerly, the goal of the Toe Jam series is to gather the best wakeskaters in sport for a showcase that focuses on the riders and having a good time. Forget about trick lists or time limits, this is all about the riding and hanging out with friends.

Hosted by The Projects, and put on by Rockstar Energy Drinks, day one of this three day event featured preliminary qualifying behind the Sea-Doo on a course filled with 10 different sliders. The top two riders in each heat moved through to the quarterfinal round to be held tomorrow. For the most part today was upset free, with the exception of Tim Kovacich and Scott Byerly failing to qualify for the next round.

Check out the press release for the full details along with the results after the jump.
